Chamber Music Matinee

“In the River” is the theme of the chamber music matinees this season. For this programme, together with our musicians* Martin Frutiger, we go “‘En bateau’ – from the Vltava to the sea”. The Vltava is a protagonist in Smetana’s “My Fatherland”: it flows to Prague into the Elbe and past Dresden and Dessau, the places where August Klughardt worked. His wonderful quintet composed in 1901 with Wagnerian sounds is a great contrast to Debussy’s impressionistic “Petite Suite”. “En Bateau” we land in the sea at the end of the programme, where Malcolm Arnold’s “Three Shanties” (sea shanties) are heard.
