Rossana Calvi

Principal Oboe of the Orchestra del Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Third Prize at Concours International d’Execution Musicale de Genève 1998, Première Prix de Virtuositè at Conservatoire National Superièure de Genève under the guidance of Maurice Bourgue, Rossana is one of the most outstanding italian oboists. She started her professional career at the age of 21, obtaining the position of Solo Oboe at ORT Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Florence, where she played until 1997, when she won her current position in Venice.
She widened her experience as guest Principal in many leading European orchestras, such as Royal Concertgebow Amsterdam, Bayerische Rundfunk Symphony, Bayerische Staatsoper, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Orchestra Mozart with Claudio Abbado, Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Thanks to this collaborations she had the opportunity to play under the baton of L.Maazel, M.W.Chung, Z.Metha, M.Jansson, G.Pretre, D.Harding, J.Temirkanov, R.Muti.
By invitation of M°Ivan Fischer, she bacame member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, taking part in several recordings and tours all over the world. As soloist she plays on regular basis with I Solisti Veneti since 2001; furthermore, she performed in front of ORT, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, Sofa Philarmonic Orchestra, USA Army Wind Orchestra (Washington), and the Simon Bolivar Orchestra with Claudio Abbado. She performed also with her Orchestra in Venice the Strauss, Martinu, Maderna and Bach Oboe Concertos.
Aside from her profession as a performer, Rossana is a dedicate teacher, giving Masterclasses in various institutions in Italy, Australia and Venezuela, on invitation of prof. Abreu, founder of ‘El Sistema Nacional para las Orquestas Juveniles y Infantiles de Venezuela’.
