Sherry Sylar has held the position of Associate Principal Oboe in the New York Philharmonic since 1984.  Throughout her tenure she has acted many times as the Principal Oboist. Besides being regularly featured as a solo artist with the New York Philharmonic, she has played guest principal with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

A highlight of her career, she was one of eight NY Philharmonic musicians chosen to perform in an international orchestra led by Leonard Bernstein, representing the United States during the 1989 Christmas season at the Berlin Celebration Concerts celebrating the dismantling of the Berlin Wall. She has performed during the tenure of five NY Philharmonic Music Directors. Now, as she looks forward to Gustavo Dudamel, an iconic figure in classical music today, taking the helm at the Philharmonic, she remains excited and proud to be a member of one of the great orchestras in the world.
