Camerata Sigismund Neukomm
April 11th 2024 at 12:00 – 13:00
Camerata Sigismund Neukomm was named in homage to the Austrian composer, pianist, flautist and conductor, Neukomm, who resided in Rio de Janeiro from 1815 to 1821 where he composed over 75 works when not teaching the Portuguese Royal family, then exiled in Brazil after fleeing Napoleon’s advance on Portugal. Neukomm had been a student of Josef Haydn and fellow student of Ludwig van Beethoven.
For London, the Camerata Sigismund Neukomm will offer old and new double reed works from Brazil, including compositions by S. Neukomm, Francisco Mignone, Edmundo Villani-Cortes, Eduardo Camenietzki, Lenir Siqueira, and the Camerata’s own Harold Emert and Ian Davidson. As a trio the ensemble has performed all over Brazil, in Vienna (2022) and Thailand (2023).
Camerata Sigismund Neukomm consists of oboist Ian Davidson, bassoonists Richard Meek and Daris Hale, all of whom are frequent participants in the annual Rio Wwinds festival which is curated by oboist-composer, and Rio resident, Harold Emert who organises the annual event sponsored by Musica no Museu (Music in the Museum).
