Description

MOZART SERENADE in F major after K497

A fascinating and substantial piano sonata for four hands in
a colourful arrangement for wind nonet by Quentin Poole.

The outer movements are full of virtuosity for all the
instruments, with plenty of operatic conversation between the principals, and
between contrasting smaller groups within the ensemble. The rich and sonorous Andante is
equally full of surprises, including some highly theatrical flourishes, and its
coda shares with the work's opening Adagio the full solemnity and
expressive power so characteristic of Mozart's finest achievements.

The arrangement can be played on period instruments, and is
a stimulating challenge for any ensemble.
